The pretty wooden stalls of the Christmas markets are individually decorated and illuminated to spread the enchanting atmosphere of Christmas in Alsace. It won't take long before you succomb to their tradition and authenticity : decorations for the Christmas tree, pottery, blown glass, toys and chiselled wooden Christmas figures for the nativity, linen, floral art, and hampers containing foie gras, Christmas biscuits and gingerbreads.

The fine aromas of mulled wine (with scents of cinnamon, orange and spices) and roasted chestnuts perfume the atmosphere. Classical concerts in local churches, good food, Christmas cookies such as the Bredalas and gingerbread combine to offer an unforgettable magical experience, which when it snows gives the most traditional Christmas atmosphere!

Easter is equally joyfully celebrated in Alsace and it is a time when Alsatians take pleasure in decorating their facades, parks, squares with the same care they use during Advent and Christmas. Branches are adorned with hand-painted eggs, hares or chicks. For the occasion, children prepare nests of leaves or moss that they place in the garden. In the morning, the nests are full of multicolor eggs laid by the hare on Easter Sunday. Following this tradition, towns and villages decorate their parks and lawns with nests filled with colourful eggs while on Easter Sunday a giant hare distributes the chocolate eggs to the delighted children.
